Career:
Mr. Avramopoulos was admitted to the Athens Bar in 1981 and he is qualified to appear before the Supreme Courts of Greece. He began his career as an associate at an Athens Law Firm, where he went on to become a partner. In 1989 he established Avramopoulos & Partners, together with litigation partner Mr. Michael Poulakos.
As head of the corporate department of the Firm, his practice consists of providing legal counsel to both Greek and multinational companies on various corporate and commercial matters. He serves as legal advisor to many large domestic companies, as well as multinational companies transacting business in Greece.
He has consulted on numerous acquisitions of home country corporations, partnerships and business, business assets by non Greek entities, and he has advised with respect to the restructuring of a number of multinational groups.
He also provides legal advice on reorganizations, foreign tax credit minimization, international financing and joint ventures. His expertise extends to international transfer pricing and other tax issues and disputes with governmental tax authorities.
Mr. Avramopoulos is highly regarded in the field of IT and Telecommunications and represents a large number of international business clients in Greece; among them are some of the world's leading companies in the area of information technology and telecommunications. Having played a major role in structuring, negotiating and documenting major corporate and commercial ventures and advising on significant regulatory issues, he has gained an in-depth knowledge of the Greek and EU telecommunications regulatory framework.
He is also recognized for his specialized work in the hotel and leisure sector, including shared ownership and condo hotels, membership clubs, fractional, etc.
He also advises on issues relating to planning, construction and engineering, investment, development, property finance, real estate litigation, environment and health, safety and licensing.
He is a member of the Athens Bar Association, the International Bar Association, the European Lawyers' Union, and the European Studies Association of which he used to be a member of the Board of Directors.
He is also the voting representative of the Firm at the State Capital Global Law Firm Group.
Mr. Avramopoulos has published several articles in international legal journals and magazines. Indicatively, his article "Greece: An Introduction to its Legal System and Corporate Law" was published in the Texas Transnational Law Quarterly, and "European Community Law/ Corporate Law of Greece" was published by the FT (Financial Times) Financial Publishing.
