Career:
Mr. Economou was admitted to the Athens Bar in 1980 and is qualified to appear before the Supreme Courts of Greece.
He has served as legal advisor for many public tenders, as well as overseeing the execution of the projects within the framework of national and European Union legislation. He is an expert on Greek legislation and related Community Directives and amendments that have been enacted or are being discussed by the European Commission and the European Parliament. He has extensive experience and know-how advising clients, both in the public and the private sectors, regarding the drafting of tender offer announcements, the filing of offer valuations, and in the negotiation drafting and execution of the contracts.
In the past Mr. Economou has offered his services as legal advisor to the European Commission in the following cases before the European Court of Justice:
a) The European Commission -vs- Greek Cement Producers (case regarding allegations for the Formation of Cartel of Prices)
b) The European Commission -vs- Greek Ferry Boat Owners (case regarding allegations for the Formation of Cartel of Prices)
During 2006 Mr. Economou and his team dedicated a substantial amount of time in the preparation and representation of the European Commission before the European Court of Justice (Court Hearing on November 2006) on the case "The European Commission -vs- Olympic Airways" (case of State Aids granted by the Greek State to Olympic Airways throughout the period 1998 - 2002).
Throughout his career, Mr. Economou has authored several articles: "European Monetary System" (1978), "European Generalized Systems of Preferences" (1979), "Matters Relating to the Application of Conventions for the Avoidance of Double Taxation" (1994), "Concession Agreement" (1996), "Procedures for the Avoidance and Settlement of Disputes in the Construction Projects" (1997).
He is also a member of the Greek Union for the Study of Construction and Technical Law.
